This project involved re-aligning the Clongowes Wood junction from the R407 and extending the road bridge over the Gollymochy river by width. A comprehensive traffic management plan ensured that traffic flows continued safely during the course of the works, which included new cast in-situ kerbs and laying of tarmac to road and paths. The work also entailed new traffic signs, timber post and rail fencing, crash barriers, road marking, and landscaping, as well as installing three new farm entrances.
The bridge widening aspect of the project consisted of augered piles for the bridge piers, cast in-situ bridge piers and deck, precast concrete bridge beams and stone faced parapet walls. Environmental management was of high sensitivity, as the works were carried out over an important fish spawning river. Due to FIMA’s carefully designed and rigorously enforced environmental management plan, there was no adverse environmental impact on the river and the project was completed successfully.
