Kildare Community College was financed by the government as a public private partnership (PPP) project and FIMA was engaged by the prime contractor, Sisk, to carry out civil works on the project. The new school is an amalgamation of a number of local Kildare schools: Presentation Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Academy, Kildare and Kildare Vocational School, to form one community school catering for 1,000 students at the 10 acre site.
The two storey post primary school accommodates 25 classrooms, 38 specialist classrooms, a special needs unit, a library, staff/administration areas, a sports hall, store areas, and toilet facilities. The development has been designed to ensure best possible value in terms of education, organisation, operation, extended use for the community and sustainability.
Outdoor facilities at the school include a full size GAA pitch, 6 hard surface playing areas, vehicular/pedestrian access, car park, cycling parking areas, bus and car park set down areas. Despite the inclement snow and frost of December 2010, FIMA completed the civils contract ten weeks ahead of the handover date and there were no safety incidents or accidents involving FIMA while on this site.
